The
College of Education, established in 1971, offers a program
of studies providing a broad foundation of liberal education
as well as professional training needed for teaching career
in secondary school. Also offered are academic graduate studies
as well as professional graduate programs leading to Master's
and Doctoral degrees.
Upon successful completion of teacher education programs,
the Ministry of Education grants graduates the Second Class
Secondary School Teacher's Certificate. The programs are staffed
by 77 faculty members, and are carried out through two divisions
and nine departments: Division of Science Education (Physics
Education Major; Biology Education Major; Earth Science Education
Major; and Chemistry Education Major), Division of Social
Studies Education (Social Studies Education Major; Social
Sciences Education Major; History Education Major; and Geography
Education Major), Department of Korean Education, Department
of German Education, Department of English Education, Department
of Education, Department of Ethics Education, Department of
Mathematics Education, Department of Fine Arts Education,
Department of Music Education, and Department of Physical
Education.
The practice teaching component of the teacher education program
is implemented in Chonbuk National University's Attached High
School and some other select secondary schools. Also, the
College houses the functions of Graduate School of Education,
and In-service Education Center for Secondary School Teachers.
In addition to the University Financial Aids program, the
College provides select students with several kinds of scholarship
funds.
