Excellence
in basic science research and education takes one of the most
important parts for the development of modern university and
the competitive power of the nation. Recently, the University
developed a reorganization program, which has been initiated
by basic science faculty members, for removing the traditional
walls between colleges and departments.
As a result, the academic activities in the basic science
area of the University have been proven to be very competitive
as evidenced by the verdict of departmental reviews carried
out in the past couple of years. Due to the reform, the College
of Natural Sciences consists of three Divisions (Division
of Biological Science, Division of Science and Technology,
and Division of Mathematics and Statistical Informatics),
two departments (Department of Science Studies and Department
of Computer Science), and three Premedical Studies (Pre-Medical,
Pre-Dental, and Pre-Veterinary programs).
Eighty-seven full-time faculty members are appointed to the
College of Natural Sciences and the College's research capability
is enriched by four research institutes, such as Institute
for Basic Research, Institute for Molecular Biology and Genetics,
Institute for Bio-diversity Research, and Semiconductor Physics
Research Institute.
