Division of Biological Sciences
All
applicants for admission to the School should have completed
a two-year pre-dental studies program in the College of Natural
Sciences. The professional program leading to the D.D.S. (Doctor
of Dental Surgery) degree and to the qualification of professional
certification is a four-year program with 32 months of actual
attendance required. In the first year in the Departmental
program, the dental students are required to carry on the
intensive course work of basic science courses, such as morphology,
dental materials, anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry,
and microbiology. In the second year, the program requires
the students to get one semester course work on basic science
courses, which is the continuation of the first year, including
such as oral microbiology, dental pharmacology, and oral pathology.
The pre-clinical laboratories and didactic technical courses
are mainly offered to the second-year students. In the third
year, the program emphasizes the preparation of skills needed
for dental practice through learning clinical dental science
courses, such as oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial radiology,
pediatric dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics,
periodontology, conservative dentistry, prosthodontics. In
the last and fourth year, students spend most of their time
in the clinic, and also comprehensive patient care is emphasized.
The D.D.S. degree is conferred on to those students who have
successfully completed four years of departmental and school
programs. They must pass a comprehensive graduation examination
successfully, and also must pass the National Board Examination
in order to obtain a license to practice dentistry in the
country.
