The
School of Graduate Studies at Chonbuk National University
was established in 1952 to prepare able students for academic
and professional careers in their respective fields. The School
is the ultimate center for transmitting and creating new knowledge
of truth and human good valued by society. This University's
mission is carried on through advanced teaching, research
and creative activities in the University. Faculty and students
share the obligatory mandate of engaging in educational transaction
in an expected course and assuming the responsibility for
advancing the frontier of new knowledge for a greater common
good. In so doing they are entitled to enjoy the privilege
of academic freedom in their fields of study.
The School has striven to develop in each student a firm grasp
of a chosen academic field, the skills and methods of conducting
research and the ability to engage in independent original
and creative thinking. To aid this educational process, the
University provides library resources, laboratories and learning
facilities as well as a close association with scholars and
frontier researchers. Individual graduate faculty is dedicated
to carrying on the responsibility for delivering quality instruction,
for guidance of graduate students in the development of their
programs, and for conducting investigations associated with
a particular field or discipline. Graduate students are expected
to take an initiative in pursuing their programs and to assume
responsibilities for the progress of their studies. The School
has greatly expanded its scope of degree programs and the
enrollment of graduate students since its inception. Graduate
degree programs are offered at Master's and Doctoral levels,
and a graduate degree is conferred for the mastery of a certain
field and thorough understanding of its related disciplines.
